Implementation Training
After the national medical examination, this is the training conducted under the guidance of a supervising physician. It is the next step for those who have passed the preliminary examination to obtain certification for taking the national medical examination. The practical training lasts for one year at a medical institution, where training in clinical practice and public health is conducted under the supervision of a supervising physician. This is the same as the clinical practice experienced by 4th and 5th year medical students abroad. Like Japanese initial clinical trainees, they participate in morning conferences of the clinical departments and conclude their training with handover for evening on-call duties.
Many who receive preliminary examination certification are graduates of 4 or 5-year medical schools, so this serves to supplement the clinical practice established by Japanese medical schools. Upon completing rotations in all clinical departments of the established curriculum, a certificate of completion for practical training is awarded. The certificate is issued after completing the practical training period in January, so a certificate of expected completion of practical training must be submitted with the actual application for the national examination.
Regarding the acceptance of practical trainees, some national and private university-affiliated hospitals are recruiting practical trainees. After passing the national medical examination, there are conditions for initial clinical training in the medical institution where the practical training was conducted or in the prefecture where that medical institution is located. The application period for acceptance varies by medical institution, so please check the information of each medical institution carefully and prepare accordingly.
